STARVE THE LANDFILL
Your contribution helps us transform events into models of sustainability by reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices. Join us in creating a future where every event leaves a positive environmental impact.
What are the Green Event Services?
Although events have recycling bins, most waste is sent to landfills due to high contamination levels. To address this issue and reduce the environmental impact of landfills, GreenLight Solutions launched the Green Event Services program in 2022. This initiative aims to minimize landfill waste and recover valuable materials from the waste stream by leveraging a large community of volunteers to conduct waste diversion efforts at events of all sizes across the Phoenix-metro area.
Our Green Event Services ensure contamination-free recycling, expands waste diversion streams (e.g., composting, food donations, and repurposing), and provides attendee education. Without GreenLight Solutions, events divert only about 15% of waste from landfills, whereas GreenLight Solutions' involvement increases this to over 50%. This threefold increase in positive environmental impact significantly reduces the waste footprint of large events. As the only organization offering this service in the Phoenix-metro area, GreenLight Solutions has garnered support from the Cities of Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, and Local First Arizona. |
Why Donate?
GreenLight Solutions is seeking funding to advance zero waste and sustainability initiatives in the Phoenix-metro, Arizona, to divert over 30 tons annually from the landfill. Since inception, the demand for Green Event Services has skyrocketed. The need for adequate capacity, funding, and resources has grown in tandem.
To effectively scale our Green Event Services program, we need the requisite equipment, supplies, and materials. Currently, we lack the resources to serve multiple events simultaneously and must rent or borrow essential items like canopy tents, grabbers, tables, chairs, trash bins, and utility tilt trucks. Additionally, we need a trailer for transportation. Adequate funding would allow us to purchase these items, significantly increasing the number of events we can service. Another barrier to our expansion is capacity; hiring a part-time Program Coordinator would enable us to manage and grow the program beyond our current limitations, as the Executive Director can only dedicate about 5 hours per week. With this support, we could meet the demand for 24+ events per year.
Your donation will help amplify these efforts, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future for our community.

Testimonials
I don’t know what I would do without GreenLight Solutions. You've changed the game for waste diversion in Tempe. I have worked with dozens of nonprofits and I have found GreenLight Solutions to be one of the most organized, communicative, passionate, and empowering. They are truly impressive in that they are always responsive, engaged, and open to pivoting with little notice. I can’t say enough good things about them! |
I wanted to take a minute to thank GreenLight Solutions. It’s always a pleasure to work with their staff as they take a hands-on approach to divert recyclable items out of the landfill. Their communication before, during, and after the event has been remarkable. With as many events that Tempe hosts, I always look forward to working with them – in hopes of an even more sustainable Tempe. |
PAST EVENTS
Mesa MarathonMesa Marathon is a great example of creative waste stream solutions, showcasing how we always customize our solutions for each event partner we work with.
Our amazing team of 12 volunteers were responsible for: ‘Bin guarding’ - directing and educating attendees on recycling etiquette; Transporting and exchanging full bins and bin liners; Sorting the recycling bins to ensure the correct materials are being recycled; Picking up any litter left behind by attendees.

Tempe Diablo StadiumThe Tempe Diablo Stadium partnership was a great example of our program being ready to scale. Since the program’s inception in 2022, our team has supported up to 2 events per month, but for 5 weeks during spring training, we helped 18 events (16 spring training games and 2 McDowell Mountain Music Festival games).
Our executive director, Ashley, used to serve as the on-site Green Team Lead during all events, but this was the first time that new Green Team Leads were trained: Collins Carrington and Alen Jakupovic. This growth in processes, training, and capacity allows our team to be able to scale to have the ability to support multiple events simultaneously. |
