Big Waste Reduction for Tiny House Developers

​Tiny homes are the housing trend of the future. Not only are they cute, but they are an innovative way to live sustainably. 

This semester a team of GreenLight Solutioneers collaborated with Tiny House Developers, a business focused on building tiny homes, in order to find solutions to their waste problem. Leftover building materials were going straight to the landfill, which did not align with THD’s goal to be a sustainable business. In addition, the team agreed to assist in company growth and find various new outreach opportunities. The GreenLight team was able to find solutions in diverting their waste from the landfill by creating partnerships with companies to recycle construction materials. Stardust Building Supplies, Recycled City, and even different clubs at ASU were interested in taking donations of these leftover materials. Despite some setbacks from the COVID-19 outbreak, the team was able to divert 67% of the materials from landfills! This was 27% more than the original goal. The team was also able to assist in company growth, by finding 7 scholarship opportunities for future interns, 8 organizations to connect with, and 3 events to be a part of. Check out Tiny House Developers today to learn more, volunteer, and build your own tiny house!
